In the «Who Are These People» section Vector offers founders the opportunity to discuss their projects, covering aspects such as their products, marketing strategies, monetisation, investments, and business plans. The focus this time is on Tayra.ai, a Ukrainian startup. Their product is an AI assistant that imports all medical information into a doctor’s existing system automatically during patient visits.

Acting editor-in-chief Yuliia Tkach interviewed Yuliia Tychynska, CEO and co-founder of Tayra.ai, about developing this new product (Yuliia was previously involved in another medical technology startup called Consultacia). They also discussed promotion, investments, and further plans for the product.

How the idea was conceived

Tayra.ai has four co-founders:

●      Yuliia Tychynska, CEO. Tychynska has 17 years of entrepreneurial experience, including five years dedicated to developing innovative healthcare products.

●      Bohdan Khaietskyi, СPO. Khaietskyi is the owner of a chain of clinics employing 150 healthcare providers. He also has five years of hospital administration experience.

●      Dmytro Sofina, Advisor. Sofina is the head of AI Research & Development at winstars.ai.

●      Yurii Humenchuk, Advisor. Humenchuk is a financial expert with a background in leadership roles in Ukrainian and German businesses.

This is Yuliia Tychynska’s second med-tech startup venture. The first one was Consultacia, an AI app which helps healthcare providers interpret blood test results based on their symptoms. The project was launched in 2023.

“There were already several widespread, pre-existing [AI] models, with their own shortcomings in use by the time we initiated our model training. We didn’t have a lot of time.

We aimed to create a service that is tailored to doctors’ professional needs. During our product-market fit search, we discovered that healthcare providers saw value in generative AI. We started looking at how AI could help doctors in their day-to-day tasks.

In April 2024, our team was invited to visit the Health Hackathon. We were working on a solution for diagnosing blood cancer. Alisa Haiduk, a machine learning engineer with over eight years of experience, was asked to join the team. While participating in the Hackathon, my colleague Bohdan Khaietskyi, who owns a chain of clinics that employs 150 healthcare professionals, noticed that doctors spend a lot of time on administrative tasks and need a system to automate data entry. If doctors saw more patients, Bohdan’s own earnings as a business owner would increase. Alisa claimed she knew how to make this happen, and we moved forward with this idea,” says Yuliia.

The development of Tayra.ai began in May 2024. Dmytro Sofina, the owner of an AI R&D company, mentored Yuliia’s team at the Hackathon. Following the event, Dmytro and his co-founder Yurii Humenchuk endorsed the idea, and a team of developers was assigned to work on Tayra.ai.

Dmytro and Yurii later joined the startup as co-founders, and Bohdan Khaietsky was appointed CPO. The development team now comprises seven experts.

Product and audience

Tayra.ai is an AI assistant that records and inputs medical data into a doctor’s existing system during patient visits. Tayra.ai uses the computer’s microphone to transcribe speech into text during a patient consultation. The AI assistant proceeds to input data into a pre-designed template, functioning like a digital secretary.

“Doctors can work independently on the website. At the start of the visit, they turn the recording on and choose the template they want to use. When they are done, they simply click “Generate a summary” and save the visit. Tayra.ai will listen, transcribe, organise the content, and fill in the appropriate fields. The healthcare provider will have access to the audio recording of the visit and the summary in their preferred format at their office.

We include APIs in Medical Information Systems, which are on average utilized by anywhere between 500 and 5,000 healthcare facilities (between 5,000 and 100,000 professionals, respectively). While some MIS are only present in Ukraine, others are used in three or more countries. Tayra.ai completes templates that are already present in the health record system.

The product is built on our proprietary AI model, which we trained with artificially generated data focusing on medical terminology and drug names in Ukrainian. We are in the process of testing out the product with clinics that are operating one of the medical systems we’ve integrated,” the founder explains.

According to Tychynska, the advantage of the product lies in its AI model’s ability to distinguish between the doctor’s and the patient’s roles during a consultation, while structuring discussions based on predefined medical templates. “A standard transcriber is limited to transforming voice to text,” she notes.

The solution is designed for:

●      owners of private clinics;

●      managers of public healthcare facilities; and

●      doctors.

She added: “Tayra.ai addresses the issue of doctors wasting time on paperwork and administrative duties. Clinic owners do not generate enough revenue due to constraints on their physical spaces, all while doctors waste time on tasks that automation can handle.

A doctor typically sees two patients per hour and dedicates 30 minutes to each visit without an AI assistant. When using AI, this number can double to four patients per hour. This means a healthcare professional can complete their appointments much faster, thereby allowing another doctor to use the same office space in the afternoon. As a result, an office can accommodate 32 patients per day instead of just 16, leading to more revenues for the clinic.

Moreover, finding a physician’s assistant or nurse has become a major issue. On average, every job opening only has about 0.3 candidates who apply. Medical staff often pursue careers abroad. A physician’s assistant in Ukraine earns $300, while in European countries, the average salary is $800.

To test the product, we invited 72 healthcare providers from a clinics owned by one of our co-founders. During the testing period, the doctors using Tayra.ai observed a two-fold reduction in time spent on paperwork, allowing the assistant — who previously handled note-taking — to focus on other responsibilities.

Business model and marketing strategy

Tayra.ai operates on a B2B2C (Business-to-Business-to-Consumer) model. The product is available via monthly subscription. The company charges $70 per month for unlimited access for each user. They sell directly to clinic owners and doctors, as well as through a network of partners in the medical systems industry.

Investments

The product has so far received around $100,000 in investment. Tayra.ai aims to see approximately 500 healthcare professionals using the product regularly while attracting attract investments. Its current goal is$150,000 for an estimated valuation of $3 million.

Plans

“The goal is to integrate with Ukraine’s seven largest Management Information Systems. This would allow us to secure 20,000 users within Ukraine before expanding to markets where our MIS partners are already present, such as Poland, Moldova, Romania, Lithuania, and Latvia,” summarises Yuliia Tychynska.
